Insights from Ephesians: Part One
Ephesians 1:17-23
God’ wants us all to know Him better, the first truth Paul proclaims.
That’s the reason Paul writes this letter, to show us what God has ordained.
He prays that the eyes of our heart would be opened to see three things this hour:
The hope of our call, spiritual riches for all, and God’s incomparable power.
The hope of our call is a life well lived, which reflects Christ’s transformation.
We all should hope our life reflects a good measure of sanctification.
As we study the Word and walk with God on heaven’s upward road,
The fruits of the Spirit shine to reveal the blessings God has bestowed.
Paul also prays that we would know the inheritance found in the saints.
How precious it is to have godly friends who inspire and do not faint.
The greatest riches found in this life are embodied in family and friends.
How glorious it is to remember this truth: for the redeemed, it never ends.
To comprehend the power of God is the third thing he mentioned in prayer.
He wants the believers to have faith in His love, not to live in despair.
The God that raised Jesus from the dead and installed Him on heaven’s throne
Is the very same God that forgave our sin and adopted us as His own.
So now we have hope that transforms our life and fellowship with godly friends.
Should Jesus tarry and we leave this earth, we know that it’s not the end.
The God that raised Jesus from the dead and installed Him on heaven’s throne
Has adopted us into His heavenly family to live with Him as His own.

Ephesians 1:17-23
17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. The Anointing of the Holy Spirit
Elijah Taken to Glory--2 Kings 2
The time had arrived for Elijah to go and meet his God this day.
“I’m leaving now to cross the Jordan. Here is where you stay.”
Elisha replied, “As the Lord lives, I will not leave you alone.
I want to go with you all the way until the Lord takes you home.”
Elijah rolled his cloak up tight; struck the Jordan with a great sound.
The waters stood up left and right; they crossed over on dry ground.
Once they were over Elijah asked, “Can I bless you? Let me hear it?”
Elisha replied, “I would like a double portion of the Holy Spirit.”
“You have asked a difficult thing. Here is how you will know it.
If you see me when I depart, you will know that God will bestow it.”
Suddenly God’s chariot was standing there between them.
Elisha would never forget that sight, for clearly he had seen them.
As history records Elisha received an anointing of spiritual power.
The Spirit of God was with him giving guidance every hour.
In those days the Spirit came upon him whom God showed favor,
But now He lives within our hearts because of the Lord and Savior.
Elisha went on to serve the Lord; he was known throughout the land.
Many wise words and miraculous deeds flowed forth at his command.
Knowing God worked in glorious wonder when upon a few He would fall,
Consider the potential in the Lord’s church since His Spirit lives within all.
Jesus said, “You shall receive power when the Spirit comes into you.”
The Spirit enables you not to cower when the devil seeks to consume you.
The Spirit within gives wisdom and strength to fight the good fight today.
And remember this about the Spirit: He has come to your life to stay.
Just as Elijah fought the good fight and passed the mantle on,
God has given us the might to fight through the night til dawn.
The Spirit of God will never leave us. His presence will ever be there.
Enabling us to win the lost as we travel to heaven so fair.

The Destructive Power of Greed
Ahab and Jezebel--1 Kings 21
King Ahab said to Naboth, I like your vineyard a lot.
Located near my palace, it will serve as a vegetable plot.
I’m gonna have it, so name your price. I’ll buy it on the spot.
But Naboth replied, “I cannot sell it, not even for a lot.”
“I inherited this land from my father. It’s forbidden for me to sell.
I have to be faithful to my God and respectful to you as well.”
Naboth spoke these words to the king in a voice respectful and mild,
But Ahab stomped towards his home to pout like a spoiled child.
Jezebel came into Ahab’s room, said “Why won’t you eat your food?”
“Naboth won’t sell his crummy little vineyard. It put me in a bad mood.”
So Jezebel said, “Just leave it to me. I can handle that louse.
In no time at all you’ll have that vineyard located by your house.”
Jezebel wrote to Naboth’s elders: “I want you to put him on trial.
Find two men to say he blasphemes and anything else that’s vile.
Use their words to frame him; then take him outside the walls.
Call for the people to throw stones at him until his body falls.”
The Word of the Lord came to Elijah, “Naboth, my servant is dead.
He was framed by wicked Jezebel because Ahab wanted his spread.
Go and say to Ahab the King, ‘Against the Lord you have sinned.
Now He is pronouncing sentence on you, a verdict He will not rescind.
Soon Ahab, your life will be over. Judgment will come like a flood.
Right where it happened to Naboth, the dogs will lick up your blood.
And listen closely, Ahab, because I haven’t told it all:
The dogs will devour Jezebel just outside Jezreel’s wall.’”
There never was a royal couple guilty of so much evil.
Ahab and Queen Jezebel set the record for greed and upheaval.
It’s hard to tell a story like this; their actions cannot be defended.
Sadly, just as the Bible describes, their wicked lives were ended.
Some folks criticize our God for recording accounts so gruesome,
But what other way can history record the wickedness of this twosome.
The power of sin brings pain to all. Satan seeks to enslave our soul.
But thanks to Jesus, who died for us, our life can be made whole.
It’s not enough to know about God. That knowledge will not save you.
Nor is it sufficient to live without God because the devil sorely craves you.
So give your life to Christ today. He paid the price of your sin.
He gives new life, new hope, new goals and takes you to heaven with Him.

Don’t Forget God’s Power
1 Kings 18:41 – 19:18
After the events on Carmel that day when all the false prophets were slain,
Elijah got on his face before God and asked Him to send the rain.
The sky grew black with heavy clouds; rain fell from a heavenly fountain.
Elijah ran faster than Ahab’s chariot racing down the mountain.
Now Ahab was a mouse of a king married to a very strong queen.
He reported to Jezebel Elijah’s taunts and all that he had seen.
Jezebel was hostile, filled with fury. She sent a message to Eli:
“I’m coming for you, you miserable prophet. This time tomorrow you die.”
Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. Far into the wilderness he went.
He came to a tree and stopped to pray, his energy and confidence spent.
“Oh God,” he said, “I’ve had enough. Would you just let me die?
I’m no better than my failing forefathers. Oh God hear my cry.”
He lay down and fell asleep, was awakened by a strange touch.
The angel of the Lord was there to feed him just enough.
Then he awoke a second time, was strengthened for the flight.
He continued his journey to Mount Horeb forty days and forty nights.
When he arrived at the Mount of God, he took shelter in a cave.
He knew he should not have run away afraid of an early grave.
He had forgotten the mighty power of God as though He could not save.
So he lay there alone wallowing in pity, making excuses that day.
“I have been zealous for you, O God. There’s no prophet left but me.”
God whispered back, “No, Elijah. There’s a fact I want you to see:
There’s seven thousand in the land who have not bowed to Baal.
Now go forth and find Elisha; He will join you on the trail.”
This was not the end of Elijah. It’s an important fact to know.
God is the God of the second chance. Through our failures we can grow.
There were years of ministry to train Elisha, a very competent guy.
Then God swooped down with a heavenly chariot, took Elijah up through the skies.
Here are some truths we should not forget. Hold them dear to your heart.
God, who calls His servant to each task, will be with him when trouble starts.
I’m like Elijah. I’ve left too early, fulfilled only part of my mission.
I have forgotten God’s great power when faced with opposition.
Whatever years and opportunities are left, I have but one main goal:
To serve the Lord with all my heart, His name and greatness extol.
Whatever stage in life you are in, it’s time to make a fresh start.
Admit past mistakes and failures in life. Give God the whole of your heart.

God Will Take Care of You
I Kings 16:29 - 17:15
Ahab did more to provoke the Lord than all the kings before.
He worshipped Baal and Asherah, but the true god he ignored.
When wickedness reigns, judgment follows. That’s why Elijah proclaimed,
“As the God of Israel lives, there will be no dew or rain.”
When Elijah prophesied judgment for sin, it really made Jezebel mad.
He knew if Ahab caught up with him, they would hurt him really bad.
God said to Elijah, “I have a plan. Go to the Kerith Ravine.
There you will find a cool bubbly brook in a place where you won’t be seen.”
So Elijah rested by the brook. He was fed both morning and night.
The ravens brought him bread and meat while he stayed there out of sight.
After a while the brook dried up, Elijah had nowhere to go. God said,
“Go to the village of Zarephath where you’ll find a poor widow.”
He must have wondered why he was directed to someone who was poor.
This humble widow was out of flour. Her imminent death seemed sure.
Nevertheless he obeyed the Lord. Here was the widow’s reply:
“I’m giving my son the last of our food; then I expect to die.”
Elijah responded, “Stop poor widow, there is a word from God on high:
If you do what He commands, the flour won’t fail, nor the oil run dry.”
The widow obeyed the Lord’s sure word; there was food for them every day.
The copious provision of flour and oil was His faithfulness on display.
Now lest you fear a future unknown, I want you to relax.
God remains faithful to His own. Say “no” to that panic attack.
If you follow the Lord your God, commit to the truths in His book,
He will lead you down the path to a cool and hidden brook.
In this account it’s easy to see God’s purpose and His power.
Our Father knows our pressing need, every minute of every hour.
So face the future knowing this: God is always true.
In the same loving way He cared for Elijah, so He will care for you.

Elijah and the Prophets of Baal
1 Kings 18:18-40
Elijah said to Ahab, “Jezebel’s prophets pollute the land.
So gather them 450 to 1; let’s see who’ll be left to stand.”
So Ahab called for all to assemble to give the gods a test.
The people gathered at Mount Carmel to see which god was best.
Elijah the prophet addressed the crowd, “It’s time to make up your mind.
It’s time to stop this wavering dance; I propose we ask for a sign.
Let each side slay a bull on the altar, but their god will start the fire.
By doing this it should be clear: one god is real, the other a liar.”
The prophets of Baal brought their bull, sacrificed it before the crowd.
They arranged the pieces on the wood, called to Baal long and loud.
They danced and cried from morning to noon, their fear beginning to haunt them.
Knowing their god was a devilish fake, Elijah began to taunt them.
“What’s wrong with Baal? Why doesn’t he answer? I hear you wail and weep.
I think you need to shout much louder. Perhaps he’s still asleep.”
They slashed their limbs and cut themselves; their blood did freely flow,
Throughout the day they prophesied, but Baal did not show.
Elijah rebuilt the altar of God; laid the bull upon the wood.
The water outpoured was performed so no one misunderstood.
He said, “Fetch four barrels, water it thrice until it fills the trench.
If God be God there is nothing on earth His fire cannot quench.”
Then he stepped back, raised his hands and cried out to the Lord,
“Oh Show the people you are God; true worship must be restored.”
With a thunderous clap and a brilliant flash, fire fell before their eyes.
All was consumed; the water lapped up; the ground before him was dry.
All of Israel fell on their face, His glory they proclaimed.
The God of Elijah won the day, their allegiance was reclaimed.
The evil prophets of Jezebel were judged at God’s command.
Once again God’s glorious name was honored throughout the land.
Is there a prophet from Jezebel alive in your heart today?
Will Jesus find idolatry that you have allowed to stay?
When Jesus comes will you rejoice or will you silently quake?
Two possible futures lie ahead. Which future do you take?

I Am Not Ashamed of the Gospel
Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek (NKJV)
When I was young I loved the Lord, but there were times when I brought Him shame
I sadly remember my many desires for status and worldly acclaim.
How grateful I am for the Lord’s kind mercy, His patience and kindness supreme.
He waded through my faults and fears to give me a godly dream.
I remember the night when God broke through. It was time to give my all.
Felt drawn to serve my Lord anew, a desire to follow His call.
I learned soon my heart was sincere, but my flesh put up a fight.
Oh what a series of battles were fought as I learned to do what is right.
That is why we should love the Gospel and dwell on it hour by hour.
How can we but cherish His Truth, which transforms us by His power?
The Holy Spirit enshrines our heart, makes us a new creation.
Through the years as we do our part, He effects His transformation.
Perhaps you are a late bloomer in life; spent years avoiding His call.
It’s better to be late in blooming, my friend, than not to have bloomed at all.
Take stock of the years that remain to you, tell others about the new birth.
Give yourself freely; seek what is true, for this is your purpose on earth.
Soon we may hear the trumpet sound accompanied by a great shout.
Bodies will rise before our eyes as the graves of the earth empty out.
If we are alive when Christ returns, we too shall rise on high.
We will fly upward, heaven bound, to meet Jesus in the sky.

Thoughts About Prayer
Matthew 6:5-13
Jesus saw some hypocrites at the corner of First and Main.
As He watched them carry on, their motives He ascertained.
Clearly they sought man’s approval, to receive their admiration.
In order to be seen by many men, they chose a busy location.
Sometimes it worked; observers watched, the hypocrites were adored,
But because their hearts were full of pride, there was no eternal reward.
The hypocrites practiced religious form, but they didn’t know their God.
He was standing right before them observing their phony façade.
Jesus taught the disciples what it really means to pray.
It isn’t about where you are or the number of words you say.
Jesus said to come to the Father, to give honor to his name.
It’s important to pray, “Thy will be done,” for His will is our aim.
He said it’s good to ask for our needs, for our Father loves to provide.
We always ask for forgiveness of sin to feel cleansed and whole inside.
We ask the Lord to guard our life, to help us defeat temptation.
We cannot defeat the evil one without a godly foundation.
Before we close our time in prayer, we remember it is God we serve.
All the praise and glory we give, our Father rightfully deserves.
So if we would grow in our walk with God; our lives for heaven prepare,
We seek our Lord’s empowering grace as we commune with Him in prayer.

Matthew 6:9-13
9Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. NKJV

Amen. NKJV

God Has the Answer to Your Need
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well (NIV)
Times are tough and people are groping. Many are gripped by fear.
Trials can cause their hearts to be open. Is there a message for them to hear?
God has given a word of comfort that can bless and set them free.
Though it was written years ago, it’s still true for you and me.
Jesus said if we belong to the Father, we shouldn’t be frozen by fear
God has promised food and water. Our role is to persevere.
Jesus cited the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap,
But you’ll never find a bird in despair so troubled he cannot sleep.
When it comes to the clothes we all need, God spoke about the flowers.
There is no fashion designer indeed who can duplicate that power.
Now flowers don’t rank as high as people—that’s the word He gave,
Can you imagine the lengths He will go when it is one of us He saves.
His message reminds us not to worry about what we shall eat or drink.
The greater problem Jesus has is teaching us how we should think.
We should remember we’re in His care; there’s no safer place to be.
Our Creator, Savior, Sustainer, Maintainer cares for us constantly.
So seek first His kingdom, do what is right. That is His command.
It’s far more important than movies at night and video on demand.
God is pleased to give us good gifts. As a Father He loves to bless.
As we began to understand Him, we learn to trust and rest.
So here is the message we need to hear, the truth that comes from on high.
He will relieve this worry and fear and stop the trembling sigh.
God has promised to remove the tears; put a smile back on your face.
So lift your heart and thank the Lord for all his blessings and grace

My Bible is Marked
In my Bible there’s many a verse with truths important to heed.
In my mind I seek to rehearse and apply the wisdom I need.
I like the verse in Psalm 51: “Create in me a pure heart.” 1
Remembering all the things I’ve done, it seems like the place to start.
I already know all men are sinners and certainly I’m included.2
Those who say that we’re all winners are walking around deluded.
But when we admit our truthful state; accept God’s gift of salvation,
He forgives our sin; lifts its weight, makes us a new creation.3
God has prepared a plan for our life from the very beginning of time.4
For every man there’s a path that’s right, which leads to heaven sublime.5
But we’re not a robot or mindless machine; God has called us to choose.6
We can choose God or things obscene—one way you win, the other you lose.7
In the course of time as we grow and mature, we find life’s real meaning.
The victories won make us sure of Christ upon whom we’re leaning.
He took the judgment for our sin;9 opened the door to eternal life.
Soon it’s our privilege to live with Him in a place with no sin or strife.10
Thanks for strolling down memory lane as I think of what Christ has done.
It’s a great joy by prose to proclaim the glories yet to come.11
I trust you will give your life to Christ; experience His new birth.
This is the pathway to heaven above while living in peace on earth.

The Lord’s Soon Return
We turn to the Bible so we can learn what we should know about Christ’s return.
We see appeals for men to repent before the time when judgment is sent.
We see the account of that glorious day when the Lord’s church is caught away,
But woe to those who reject the truth, for unrestrained evil is on the loose.
To the believer these facts are well known. We anticipate a flight to our heavenly home.
We see world conditions ascending within that will enable the rise of the man of sin.
Knowing how soon we may depart, we plead with our loved ones to give Him their heart.
There will be no warning; no time to get right, for the call will be sudden, like a thief in the night.
After the rapture those left behind will succumb to evil their spiritual eyes blind.
With the restraining power of the Spirit removed all forms of evil will be approved.
Drugs will be sought and morality despised; all forms of wickedness will arise.
The chaos that follows creates the condition for one-world rule by the Son of Perdition.
The antichrist requires the whole world’s worship and offers a mark to make it worth it.
This mark must be taken to buy or sell. Those who receive it are guaranteed hell.
But even as this mark is revealed, 144,000 evangelists are sealed,
Who call for Israel and all who will hear it to be faithful to death and not to fear it.
Millions will join their faithful band and suffer death at the antichrist’s hand.
They awake in heaven and abide with the Lord soon to receive their eternal reward.
On earth the pain and judgments increase warning the world from greatest to least
That God’s patience is over, He’s sending His son. The end of the end has now begun.
The final event unfolds from on high as the world clearly sees activity in the sky.
The antichrist marshals the world’s armed forces to battle the army on white horses.
There they assemble in Megiddo’s bowl, the final stand of arrogant souls.
At Megiddo they die at the hand of the Lord. No longer can His word be ignored.
The beast and false prophet will then acquire their eternal home in the Lake of Fire.
But that is not the end of it. The devil is bound and thrown in the pit.
For a thousand years Jesus will reign. A kingdom of perfection He will sustain.
And after that there’s still more to come, for eternity will have just begun.

Are You Connected to the Vine?
"I am the vine; you are the branches." (John 15:5)
Do all roads lead to heaven? Now that’s an important question.
Many there are who walk through life with a mistaken impression.
Believing all paths lead to God they search until they find
The path that appeals the most to them—body, soul, or mind.
Some like to choose the sweetie God, the one who looks aside;
Who doesn’t require a transformed life, who lets all sinners slide.
They like to enjoy the fruits of the flesh without a shred of guilt.
And so they indulge freely in sin; they plunge in to the hilt.
Some like to choose the candy God, the one who will make you rich.
The benevolent, overindulgent God who responds to a greedy pitch.
They want a God who approves their excess, who never thinks it’s funny
That spoiled, disgruntled babes in life think only of fun and money.
Some like to choose the big mean God, the one with a thousand rules.
No wonder people look at the church and think it’s full of fools.
Don’t think for a moment God is defined by creating a list to follow.
Those who try eventually find their life is empty and hollow.
Some like to choose the nature God—you find Him in the trees.
They save the whales and spotted owls but let the humans freeze.
They invent fancy tales about impending disaster and tell it around the globe.
They’re often led in such foolishness by those in scholastic robes.
Some like to choose the hedonistic God; they live a life without checks.
They devote themselves to what feels good including illicit sex.
They abort their babies for convenience sake without a shred of regret.
How sad it is when the baby’s mom becomes his greatest threat.
There isn’t a person described above who knows the real God.
The Creator, Redeemer, Sovereign Lord who walked upon this sod.
The God who loves the world so much, He took judgment in our place.
It is He in whom we place our trust for salvation given by grace.
This is the God, the only God, there is no other to save you.
This is the life in which to choose, so choose in this time he gave you.
Now is the day of your salvation, now is the acceptable time.
Let God’s glory fall on your life; get connected to the vine.

Taken Captive by False Philosophies
Colossians 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. (NIV)
From its earliest days the church has contended for truth to reign supreme.
The Fathers sought to protect the flock from the enemy’s evil schemes.
The battle has raged throughout the years, the scriptures sounding alarm,
For the devil is relentless in his intent to bring God’s people harm.
There was a heresy heartily proclaimed by third century teacher Arius.
He claimed our Lord was a lesser God, an erroneous teaching nefarious.
He maintained the Father created Christ and called Him his only Son.
The Fathers fought this heresy until the battle was won.
Another heresy alive today is the thought that you can be divine.
You receive new revelation, join the right group; follow the party line.
If you work hard, give of your goods, achieve high priesthood true.
Then when you die your name will be called and you can become god too.
The first heresy that I described is still alive today.
Millions are held in its strong grip following a false pathway.
Its adherents walk the streets to show Jehovah their fitness
To receive the hope of Paradise Earth as a loyal Jehovah’s Witness.
The second heresy I described is another cult like the first.
Though you strive to become a god, its doctrine will leave you cursed.
Jesus is the only Savior if God’s saints you would be among.
True salvation cannot be earned by following Smith and Young.
Many are trapped in false systems today who need to be set free.
Somehow they must hear the truth and see it in you and me.
When they place their trust in Christ, their life is never the same.
So let us continue to declare God’s Word and glorify His name.

Wisdom from Solomon
Proverbs 1:1-12
The older I get the more I see
The wisdom God’s truths provide for me.
So here’s a few samples from Solomon’s pen.
You will find them worth reading again and again.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
Lean not on your own understanding.
Invite the Lord His truth to impart;
Don’t do what the flesh is demanding.
Try not to be wise in your own eyes;
Fear God and depart from evil.
For if you don’t learn your flesh to despise
It will soon bring you strife and upheaval.
Honor the Lord with all your possessions;
Give a tithe of what you are earning,
For when you gain mastery over greed;
It’s a pretty good start in your learning.
Do not despise the Lord’s chastening hand;
Never spurn His correction.
If you would be a credit to this land,
Submit and seek His direction.

John the Baptist
"The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD;
Make His paths straight.’” Matthew 3:1-12 (NKJV)
He was the prophet from Malachi with a message from God for all.
From the desert he came with a mighty voice issuing a clarion call.
His was the voice in the wilderness, the one to prepare the way,
To announce the Redeemer for all mankind, sent by the Ancient of Days.
Knowing that Jesus would soon appear, he proclaimed the need to repent.
Intuitively they knew his message was true so off to the desert they went.
With preaching bold, appearance austere, the message decreed crystal clear,
The Baptist came confronting sin. Many came forth to be baptized by him.
Some Pharisees came to hear John preach, men in the culture respected.
Along with them were Sadducees, leaders politically connected.
Knowing their hearts were far from God, nothing but spiritual fakes,
The Baptist called them what they are: a band of vipers and snakes.
“Here’s the problem with you,” he said, as he looked them in the eye.
“Your great pride and vanity will condemn you when you die.
Seeing no need for humble repentance, you have drawn God’s ire
He will gather wheat to His barn; the chaff will be burned in the fire.”
What if John was preaching to you and you were living afar?
Would you continue without a clue living the way you are?
What will it take for your heart to be stirred? Can’t you see the end is near?
When will you decide to heed God’s word? The signs are increasingly clear.
These are the questions we all must ask as we walk through life on earth.
We must act before time has passed to experience His new birth.
He will not deprive you of fun or joy. Your life He is sure to fulfill.
You will feel fully alive when you surrender to His will.

Jesus, Our Shepherd
Psalm 23
A faithful shepherd guards the sheep. They’re protected under his care.
The paths he walks are not too steep on the way to the meadows fair.
There in the valley with grass so green and a brook with a quiet flow,
His sheep will rest, their hearts serene, protected from evil foes.
This is how Jesus cares for His flock, how He leads and guides each day.
We are empowered by faith in our walk as in His presence we stay.
Through Christ we find the valley of peace, the place of promise and rest.
From fear and worry we are released. Our life is truly blessed.
Then as we approach the valley of death, we face it with peace of mind
For when it is time to draw the last breath, His presence is there sublime.
The angels transport our spirit on high, our heavenly home to gain.
We find there no sickness, no sorrow nor sighs, for God has removed all pain.
Perhaps we will see the city foursquare, the one with streets of gold,
The glorious city which Jesus prepared for the sheep who came into His fold.
One clear morning the trump will sound, the horses will stomp their feet.
“Mount up” will be the command profound, “for a ride you’ll never repeat.”
Down through the skies of worlds unknown, all the way to the Holy Land
Jesus will ride to claim His throne, defeating the armies of man.
This is the way wickedness ends and how eternity begins.
The Word of God affirmed again: The devil loses; Jesus wins.

Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (NIV)

The Man Who is Blessed
Psalm 1
I know a man who is really blessed. His life is free of turmoil and stress.
He doesn’t hang with the wrong kind of friends; his sinful ways have come to an end.
His life is guided by God’s pure Word. He’s soaking in scripture, his heart is stirred.
He’s like a tree with a strong tap root—well-watered, not withered, producing good fruit.
But there are many in the same town, whose life is sliding, whose spirit is down.
They’re like the chaff, the empty husk, blown far from the stream, useless dust.
They have no fruit to present to the Master; they’re marching toward eternal disaster.
They wasted the years of old age and youth by choosing to follow the devil’s truth.
God cares for those whose ways are right, who live for Him by day and night.
They seek His face, His precepts they cherish. Not so for those who are destined to perish.
This is why God sent His only Son. He paid sin’s price; the work is done.
So, dear friend, this I suggest: Surrender to Jesus. Come join the blessed.
Psalm 1:1-6
1Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
4Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. (NIV)

4Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. (NIV)

Are You in the Ark of Salvation?
Genesis 6:5-8
There was a day when God looked down and saw the earth so vile.
Sin was king in village and town for mile after mile.
Conditions were terrible on this globe; God’s heart was filled with pain;
No matter where man made his abode, he was bound by sin’s dark chain.
So terribly dominated by sin, his thoughts were continually evil;
His very nature corrupted within produced a global upheaval
Instead of living in love and peace, destruction and death were loosed.
All that was good and kind had ceased so that man was without excuse.
But there was one in all the earth who found the Creator’s favor
God esteemed Noah to be of great worth because He loved the Savior.
In spite of Satan’s evil scheme to defile each generation
God always kept one righteous man to proclaim his gracious salvation.
Noah preached one hundred years while building God’s specified ark.
He was the subject of jest and jeers and other disparaging remarks.
But when the rains of judgment fell Noah’s family was safely within.
None of the others lived to tell. They died because of their sin.
So here is a question for all my friends. Do you dwell in the ark of salvation?
If today was the day that all would end, what is your destination?
God has prepared an eternal plan for those who receive His Son.
He offers grace to every man. This is how the battle is won.
Get down on your knees and pray. Call out to God above.
Don’t wait until later, do it today. He will fill your heart with love.
You will feel clean, your sins washed away; God’s peace will come within.
Your eternal condition is fixed today, for now you belong to Him.

Genesis 6:5-8
5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. 7 So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth--men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air--for I am grieved that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. God’s Transforming Power to All who Believe
“For those God foreknew he also predestined to be
conformed to the likeness of his Son” Romans 8:29
It started with Adam—the horror of sin—cost innocent blood to change him within.
Abel was the second son born. Because of Cain’s sin, his life was torn.
Enoch preached of judgment to come. All families perished except for one.
They taunted Noah, that out of touch dud, but it was he who rested above the flood.
Abram began as a man of haste in time became a hero of faith.
Jacob was known for disgraceful deception; God changed him into a man of direction.
Moses fled from Pharaoh in disgrace. God sent him back to speak face to face.
Rahab was once a woman of shame, but the scarlet cord removed the blame.
Sampson, too long a mighty sinner, left this life a victorious winner.
Daniel served God as a faithful youth; then reaped a lifetime of honor and truth.
Daniel’s three friends incurred the king’s ire. In the moment of truth found Christ in the fire.
Once a demoniac, the Gadarene, proclaimed the power of the Nazarene.
Lazarus, whose sisters placed Christ at their head, amidst billowing grief was raised from the dead.
Peter, first arrogant, fell into sin, then mighty in Christ, God’s Spirit within.
James and John, the “Sons of Thunder,” transformed by Christ without fault or blunder.
James, the Lord’s brother, first wouldn’t believe, then early church pastor—at prayer on his knees.
He was the beggar at temple gate “Beautiful” whose life was empty, distressing, and futile.
Thirty-eight years his fate was sealed; then Peter walked by; his legs were healed.
Dead Dorcas was given to love and good deeds, raised by the Spirit to care for more needs.
Barnabas the faithful, generous giver helped Paul become a superb Christian liver.
Aquila and Priscilla, true servants feted, were willing to go wherever needed.
Timothy, well taught by his godly mother, served with renown among Christian brothers.
Others who helped the gospel get started ended their life as faithful martyrs.
God, who saved us from sin and strife, wants to transform us, to make us like Christ.
This giant truth we all must follow to avoid a life that’s empty and hollow.
Millions He’s changed—more than a few, so turn to Christ and you’ll be changed too.

The Church at Laodicea
Revelation 3:14-22
As good as it was Philadelphia to see, it’s a different story for Laodicee.
Though they are rich in material blessings, their spiritual state is quite depressing.
Instead of inspired and energetic, their lukewarm passion was quite pathetic.
It’s a sad, sad story to behold when a church is neither hot nor cold.
Laodicea felt they had everything; there was nothing for them that Jesus could bring,
Their love and pursuit of material wealth wreaked havoc upon their spiritual health.
They mistakenly thought they had it all, were ignorant of their terrible fall.
So Jesus said he would spit them out, for lukewarm believers are not devout.
We see the Lord gave words of correction instructing the church to seek new direction.
As they grew rich with each new deal, their fervency dimmed; they lost their zeal.
They needed salve to heal their eyes alerting them to the devil’s strong lies.
This wretched condition brought God shame. Their love for money was to blame.
Here is a message if you’re smart: Jesus stands at the door of your heart.
He’s asking for an invitation to open our eyes for clarification.
If we will simply open the door, He will bring purpose and so much more.
This is how to call heaven our home and reign with Jesus from His throne.

Revelation 3:14-22
14 "To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. 19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. 21 To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." The Church in Philadelphia
Revelation 3:17-13
We’ve examined Ephesus and Smyrna too, learned what was good and what was askew.
Saw Pergamum there where Satan’s enthroned, glad this city was not my home.
Saw Thyatira where Jezebel’s strong, then on to Sardis where much was wrong.
But here in Philly we finally see the kind of church we ought to be.
Philadelphia exhibited a special love that only comes from heaven above.
They heeded Him who is holy and true, found that their love just grew and grew.
Because they endured through testing and pain never denying our Lord’s great name,
God opened before them an open door to win more lost souls than ever before.
This is a record with a happy ending, for it speaks of rewards eternal, unending.
Because they were true, their service worthwhile; they will be kept from the coming trial.
Trouble will come to this vile world as judgment upon the wicked is hurled.
But this faithful church is raptured away, caught up to heaven where sin holds no sway.
If pleasing Jesus is your concern, here is a lesson for all to learn:
Draw near to Him with all your heart; from His precepts never depart.
Live fully for Him; love evermore. Be willing to walk through His open door.
Just imagine heaven’s joyous sound when we receive our heavenly crown.

7 "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. 9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars-I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you. 10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth.
11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. 12 Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name. 13 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. 666-Beware the Man of Sin
Posted by request from the folks at church tonight
One of these days—it may be soon--perhaps at evening or maybe noon
A trump will sound, a voice will shout; many graves will empty out.
All true believers, fine and fair, will rise to meet Jesus in the air.
Millions missing, a global disaster! The people cry out for a global master.
Then will appear the man of sin who comes like a lamb the world to win.
With assuring words delivered by guile, he enslaves a world beleaguered by trial.
First he will change our national border and bring to fruition a new world order.
But it won’t be enough to rule this sod. Soon he’ll declare that He is God.
Men will be forced to worship him and receive a mark on forehead or limb.
They need the mark to buy or sell, but with this mark, they’re destined for hell.
So here is wisdom, remember this: the mark will be numbered 666.
Don’t make this decision on a whim, for once it is made, you belong to him.
Knowing this, what will you do? Will you examine the scripture to see if it’s true?
Will you fall to your knees and earnestly pray for God to change your life today?
Now that you’ve heard the gospel true, you must decide just what you will do.
Your gift from God is Christ within. The devil will give you the man of sin.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4
1Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you,2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. The Church at Sardis
Revelation 3:1-8
Your church is in a bad situation when it doesn’t live up to its reputation.
Suffering Smyrna received Christ’s praise; not much good about Sardis to say.
Though it was known for its spiritual deeds, this church was found to be in need.
Only a few would be dressed in white, for all the others abandoned the fight.
The church is not called to a time of ease; its mission is not the flesh to appease.
The church is charged the truth to proclaim, not to live their lives in vain.
Sardis must throw off sin’s chains, repent and strengthen what remains.
This is how she turns the tide, becomes to Christ a worthy bride.
How are things in your church, my friend? Does it have a heart to contend?
Is there zeal, life and joy? Does it pick up the sword, God’s Word, to employ?
Is there a heart to please the Lord or is His message largely ignored?
I’d rather be Smyrna and suffer pain than to be Sardis and be ashamed.

I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. 3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.
4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. 5 He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels. 6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (NIV)

The Church in Thyatira
Revelation 2:18-29
Have you ever trembled at the strong word of God; fallen on your face to pray?
Have you been humbled, felt like a clod, knowing you’d gone astray?
This is the word for some in this church as they peered into a fiery gaze.
Suffering would now become their bed because of their evil ways.
Here comes Jesus with eyes like fire, whose feet are like gleaming brass
Upon the filth of Jezebel’s lies judgment will soon be passed.
The Word instructs, the Spirit calls out for Jezebel’s folks to repent,
But they continue in their immoral deeds, to the rule of sin they consent.
Sometimes people confess salvation, making a spiritual profession.
But there’s more than talk to walk the walk, to be in the Spirit’s possession.
All true believers become a new creature, the old ways they forsake.
They reject the old patterns of sin’s control, of righteousness they partake.
Pause for a moment, think about your life. How do you draw your next breath?
Is it not God whose mercy and love protects from an early death?
Why do you live the way you do? It is to sin that you say, “Amen.”
How sad you will be in that Final Day if your children are condemned.
So if you’ve been playing at Jezebel’s feet, it’s time to depart evil ways.
It’s about time you humble your heart, look into that fiery gaze.
It’s time for God to cleanse your life, to change your corrupted heart.
It’s time to lead your family to God, a new course in life to chart.

"And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, 'These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass:19 "I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first.20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.
24 "Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden.25 But hold fast what you have till I come…29 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’ (NKJV)

The Church at Pergamum
Revelation 2:12-17
Pergamum boasted Satan’s throne, a pretty bad place to call your home.
A hard, cold city for Christian results; the place was fueled by the power of cults.
The church in town had troubles too; deceived by bad doctrine and things untrue.
That’s why Jesus shared this talk. He desired to help them walk the walk.
The philosophy of Baalam controlled this place, a message the church began to embrace
Baalam is about prestige and wealth, a lifestyle destructive to spiritual health.
In addition there was a Nicolaitan teacher who classified people lower than the preacher.
This foul doctrine makes God irate, for it subordinates folks to a lesser estate.
All God’s people are a kingdom of priests; His Word is given that all should feast.
The priesthood is not a chosen few who deliver the word to the people in the pew.
When you classify others by spiritual station, you have just become the next Nicolaitan.
Since all God’s people are important to the whole, finding our place should be our goal.
Because of this Christ told them to repent, to figure out how their lives should be spent.
His clear Word was a double-edged sword. It sliced through lies; it could not be ignored.
Antipas He praised, the lies He exposed; the door to deception he firmly closed.
By receiving God’s manna their strength was renewed, the battle won; the enemy subdued.
What was left for the believers to hone? It was to be acquitted, to receive the white stone.
They understood if the stone was white, it meant they were judged worthy of the fight.
They also knew if the stone was black, they were found faithless, convicted by the facts.
So let us heed this message from our Lord: let us walk in truth and receive our reward.

12 “To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. 13 I know where you live — where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city — where Satan lives. 14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: You have people there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin by eating food sacrificed to idols and by committing sexual immorality. 15 Likewise you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. 17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.” (NIV)

The Church in Smyrna
Revelation 2:8-11
Here is a word from the First and Last,
Who knows the future and conquered the past.
If you are from Smyrna unite in prayer,
For Satan is planning an offensive there.
The devil is coming in rage and ire
To snuff out your hope and spiritual fire.
In spite of your poverty, suffering, and need,
He sees how you’re rich in love and good deeds.
There are some from the synagogue of Satan
Who claim to be true but Christ they’ve forsaken.
These false believers whose faith has failed
Will unite with the devil to put you in jail.
All will be tested, many in prison
Forcing each home to make a decision.
Some will be tested even to death,
Yet remain faithful until their last breath.
So face the future with a smile on your face.
Place your trust in His love and grace.
Don’t let Satan’s threats get you down
For God has a blessing, a beautiful crown.
Revelation 2:8-11
8 "To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again. 9 I know your afflictions and your poverty-yet you are rich! I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. 10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. 11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death. (NIV)

The Letter to the Church in Ephesus
Revelation 2: 1-7
Jesus sent the Ephesian church a message of deep concern.
It wasn’t about an overt sin or some doctrine they failed to learn.
It wasn’t about a lack of hard work or failure to persevere;
Their commitment to serve the Lord was known to be sincere.
It wasn’t because they welcomed new teachers without a proper test,
The Ephesian believers were true to the Word. Its veracity they stressed.
So what was the problem Jesus had? What was he intolerant of?
What did he see in the Ephesian church that created this call from above?
The Ephesians left their first love behind; to that they must return.
This was our Lord’s serious charge expressed in the strongest of terms.
It’s fine to proclaim the gospel, to tell of our Lord above,
But very few are able to hear it when they fail to feel the love.
He called them first to remember, then to repent and restore.
Remember the love, restore the deeds; get back to that place once more.
If they failed to heed His Words; if they failed to do what was right,
All their labor would be in vain if Jesus removed their light.
I know there’s a truth in here for us, a message we need to heed.
It’s not to allow the lesser things to crowd out the truth we need.
So let us love the Lord our God with all our heart and might;
Let us dispel the darkness of sin by reflecting God’s glorious light.

Jesus sent the Ephesian church a message of deep concern.
It wasn’t about an overt sin or some doctrine they failed to learn.
It wasn’t about a lack of hard work or failure to persevere;

Revelation 2:2-7
2 "I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; 3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place -- unless you repent.6 But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
7 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”’(NKJV)

The Seven Churches of Revelation
Revelation 2, 3
God gave a word to each congregation of seven key churches in Revelation.
Each of these churches set the stage for explaining conditions in their age.
First we see the earliest days when the Spirit set their hearts ablaze.
When Ephesus began to lose her first love, God sent a warning from above.
Next is Smyrna where some were slain; many endured persecution’s pain.
In spite of poverty and affliction they displayed the depth of their conviction.
Though oppressed under Satan’s thumb, the Lord gave them courage to overcome.
This was His promise during the test: “You will not see the second death.”
The believers who called Pergamum home lived next door to Satan’s throne.
There in the midst of Satan’s threats Antipas was faithful even to death.
But there were some who hindered salvation by showing Balam toleration.
If a pure life you want to feature, stop giving credence to the false teacher.
Thyatira showed good deeds and faith but also false teaching to erase.
Jesus called out Jezebel, said he was sending her straight to hell;
Said he had given her time to repent, to reflect upon how her life was spent.
Then He said unto the rest, “Reject her teaching and pass the test.”
Sardis too received a strong word, the strongest they had ever heard.
He told them that their reputation did not match their situation.
There were a few unsoiled by sin, whose lives were pure without and within.
Only a few who shone like a light, whose names were found in the Book of Life.
Philadelphia was given an open door. Because they won souls, He gave them more.
Even though their strength was small they succeeded because they gave their all.
This is the church whose sole ambition was to fulfill their earthly mission.
When before Him on bended knee, I hope these words can be said about me.
Finally we come to Laodicee. It’s not the church where anyone should be.
Materially rich but spiritually poor; they’re not impressive and not mature.
Their hearts were neither hot nor cold; no spiritual fruit was there to behold.
Jesus had wisdom to impart if only they’d open the door of their heart.
This is a summary of the churched whose faith was tested and character besmirched.
For some there was a good report. For others, it’s clear: their lives fell short.
So here’s the message we should see: let us strive to be all we can be.
Let us serve the Lord in humility and grace pursuing His will, seeking His face.

Which One Are You?
Revelation 3:15-16, 19-20
Are you a light shining bright in the darkness of night?
Or are you affright, losing the fight,
Overwhelmed by the waves that engulf you.
Which one are you?
Is your heart aflame, proclaiming the name of the One
Who saves you? Or are you in pain, wounded and maimed
By the enemy whose lust still craves you?
Which one are you?
Are you strong? Do you belong? Will you stay long at the feet of Him
Who would bless you? Or are you flighty, certainly not mighty,
Unwilling to let Him possess you?
Which one are you?
Come to the Source for the power to enforce the will of God Almighty.
Do not flee in retreat, again to repeat
The bondage that long has enslaved you.
This you must do.

Revelation 3:15-16, 19-20
15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth...19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. (NIV)
